Doctrine, Tradition, or Habit #2

What do we live by?

Doctrine

  • a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a church, political party, or other group.
  • “the doctrine of predestination”
  • synonyms: creed, credo, dogma, belief, teaching, ideology

Tradition

  • the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way.
  • “every shade of color is fixed by tradition and governed by religious laws”
  • synonyms: historical convention, unwritten law

Habits

  • a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.
  • “this can develop into a bad habit”
  • synonyms: custom, practice, routine, wont, pattern, convention, way, norm, tradition, matter of course, rule

DOES IT MATTER HOW YOU LIVE?

Mark 7:7-9 (It is recommended to read these verses in context, but the focus is on the three verses.)
And he (Jesus) continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!” (vs. 9)

Titus 2:1
“You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.”

Is doctrine good? Always!
Biblical Doctrine is from the mouth of God.
See Deuteronomy 8:3
“And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.”

Jesus referenced doctrine when refuting satan in Luke 4.

Doctrine is:
always good! (1 Timothy 4: 6-11)
always leading us to the life giver! (John 6:63, Hebrews 4:12)
always less complicated! (2 Timothy 4:3-4, 2 Peter 3:16)
